A cool site...

I always surf late into the night as I prepare something for the blog. Tonight was no exception! I attached the link for "Erwin", TN and when I clicked on the web site, I found something called "Quilt Trail". I went there and found a great site for searching out barns in eastern TN with quilt patterns adorning them. This is cool and some day, I hope to drive to some of those sites and see them for myself. I did something similar a few years back when I took my boys around Orlando and snapped pics with the LIZART figures standing taller than any of us.

Back in December...Paris....

I went with my BFF to EPCOT after Christmas and we had a great time together (we always do)! Here we are eating in France (I think it is so cool to say that). They had the best quiche I've ever eaten and the cheesecake was scrumptious!

oooo.....one last pic....

Okay, I thought about this picture I took. We had a lot of dust in TX so I took advantage of it on the back window. We have been sporting this ever since! And we haven't had any rain hitting the back window.

The side windows had (1) each day crossed out except for the present one on one side (can't see it anymore) and (2) the states listed that we had gone through (still can see it but haven't taken a pic since IA).

I also had "Thing 1" on Karl's side and "Thing 2" on KJ's side but they can roll their windows up and down and it got wiped away! Oh well, it was nice while it lasted!!!

Homeward Bound

There's a lot of songs to express the upcoming trip back to FL. I used JD's song because it is the CD we put on whenever we leave TN coming from Erwin, where Kent's parents live now. These are the mountains we know and though we drove through VA and even stayed overnight in WV, these lyrics can easily reflect TN and NC as we drive away, southward to the Atlantic Ocean.....these country roads will be taking us home and back here, soon again!

"Simple Man" - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Relaxing in the Mountains

Hello! I've been taking it easy since we got to Kent's parent's house in TN. We are having great weather once again! It was about 70 degrees today in the sun. It feels good to wear pants and long sleeves.

We ate at Maple Grove for dinner tonight. I should have taken a picture. The food is so good there. We are going back for dinner tomorrow (Friday). The special is turkey and dressing plus two sides for $4.99. And you get a roll and butter and the portions are tremendous! Tonight I had the roast and gravy and it's the only place I've ever had it where there wasn't any fat or grizzle to pull off! WOW! MMMMMM....(yes, I'm gaining weight here!)

We'll be home on Sunday. As much as I enjoy being here in the country, I am looking forward to being home in my own "place".

Below are the fun things you can do on vacation. First one to bed is always fair game and mom and dad were always first to sleep as you can see...

Karl actually ate these M n Ms later!!!

Day 20 - Tuesday, June 13, 2006

Today was spent in several places. We went to Canton an hour away from Cleveland. We stopped by to take a few pics in front of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. We also made a quick trip into the gift shop to get postcards and other items.

Then we drove on to Dresden, OH for lunch and pics. We ate at Popeye's. A 50's style restaurant that Dave Longaberger opened before he went into making baskets full time. It was good and the baskets were all over the restaurant!

I ran in to see the quaint stores around Dresden.
This is a mecca for ladies who want to get a way for a long weekend!!! Great gift shops and lots of opportunities for pics. The weather couldn't have been better, also.

We then drove on to Newark. Home of the Longaberger Headquarters. A huge basket shaped building with lots of cool features.

Day 19 - Monday, June 12, 2006

Okay, we are finally at The House That Rock Built. We were late getting there so we didn't go into the museum but the gift shop was full of things to look at and even more things to want to purchase!!! The interior is multi-level and there were large items haging from the wondows above. Very cool!

We also drove around Cleveland and saw the homes of the Cavaliers, Browns and Indians...basketball, football and baseball teams...in that order. Tomorrow we will move on to Charleston, WV. Only an overnight stay but a very quaint one, at that.

Day 18 - Sunday, June 11, 2006

Here we are at Cedar Point just outside of Sandusky, OH. 16 rollercoasters and a whole lot of screams!!! We were able to do 12 of them and the space needle plus some food along the way. What a wonderful day!!! Low 60's and mostly sunny all day (hence, my jacket)! We sure are lucky!!!

If you can't see the video below, you are required to have Macromedia Flash Player 8. If you click on the screen, it should tell you how to download it. It's free to download. It is 1 minute and 50 seconds of us on Mean Streak...the big wooden rollercoaster. It was so much fun and using my little Elph camera which can do video, is just unbelievable!

Here we are, the night before the big day for the boys. We are standing at Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio. (If you look to mthe left behind us, you can see the rollercoasters at Cedar Point.) It is around 7 pm and the weather was below 60 degrees. I was freezing! At least the sun is out and the weather is clear and mild. Hopefully, tomorrow will be more of the same. We left St. Louis this am and arrived in Indianapolis around 4pm. We had just enough time to take a bus ride around the track while listening to a recorded talk about the beginnings of the speedway, then return to the museum to look around. I went right to the gift shop and found a few goodies while the boys took pictures in an Indy car. Now it's time to relax. Tomorrow we will be heading out to Sandusky, OH for the rollercoaster rides of our lifetime.

.......
Karl's first White Castle...an experience!

KJ had his first taco from Jack-In-The-Box way back in Texas and couldn't wait for another visit...

Kent and I each had a slider from White Castle and then our meal at J-I-T-B. Good, greasy food!!! (Day 14 - west of St. Louis)

Day 15, Thursday, June 8, 2006

Today was a fun day. We walked a block from our hotel to the Arch. Took the car to the top, looked around, took pics, came back down, walked around the gift shop and museum and walked to the riverboat for a ride on the Mississippi. A great day for family fun!

We made it to Kansas City in time to see a major league baseball game. With the Royals and Rangers not in much contention for a World series spot, there were plenty of seats. 10,000 fans watched with us as they lost to the Rangers. All in all, it was a good game and we enjoyed the kids hitting the beach balls in the stands as much as the game, itself. Great stadium and wonderful people in KC, MO!

Another day, Another Monument

Today was spent at Mt. Rushmore. We went to the monument after lunch and spent an hour looking around at the grounds and information areas. The drive to the site was nothing short of spectacular. I can't believe all the great views we have seen this trip!

Tonight, we ate at a chuckwagon supper club. They served us through a line then we went to our seats and listened to a country music show. The girl playing the fiddle was awesome! The place we were at was adjacent to the property where Dances With Wolves was filmed. It is called Ft. Hays. I enjoyed everything.

Tomorrow, it is an 8 hour drive to Sioux City, IA to see the memorial of the plane crash of United Flight 232 on July 19, 1989. A miracle.

Too Early For Some...

They are the last ones to get up...sleepy and blurry-eyed...but they are getting along...and...that's what matters...

Tomorrow's Plans...

We drove from Roswell, NM today and landed in Denver, CO about 8 pm. (Kent was bushed!!!) Tomorrow, we will drive another 7 hours and go through Cheyenne, WY on our way to SD. We will be there for 3 days. The Crazy Horse walk (much anticipated) will be the highlight of my vacation and that is scheduled for Sat. am. Sunday, we will visit Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills. Monday we leave for the plains - going through Nebraska, Kansas and ending up in MO. TTFN

Day 8 - Thursday, June 1, 2006

Out of nowhere is this cool looking diner as we were to turn onto a different hwy. Since rest areas are scarce in this neck of the woods, I asked the driver to stop so I could use the facilities. Feeling bad about going into the restaurant and not buying anything, we sat down and had lunch. It was GREAT!!! Amazing what you can find at a podunk kind of place.

Deep in the heart of Texas

We went to the Alamo today. It was a very interesting morning. The weather was great and the crowds didn't get there until after we had walked out. We saw a man preaching on a ledge with no one around. A baby bird that fell out of its nest with the mamma bird chasing off everyone who tried to help the baby (Kent got the Park Ranger to come over and take care of it). What a great time!!!

Day 3, Night 3 May 26, 2006

We ate at Jack-In-The-Box because I hadn't eaten at one since I was a kid living in Chicago. I loved their greasy tacos. So, the picture out front is with Jack to the left. (See his shadow?)

The bottom picture was taken at night in San Antonio outside by Riverwalk. It is the restaurant we ate at and it is located under our hotel. Kent said he had to sneeze and KJ playfully put his finger in front of Kent's nose which was promptly sneezed on! A few spectators got a good laugh from watching this take place!!!

Day 2 - Friday, May 26, 2006

We left Tallahassee around 8:30 am and drove through Alabama and Mississippi. The picture of the day is at the welcome center just after we drove into Mississippi.
We arrived at our destination for the day around 5 pm.....Lafayette, LA. We stayed at a Quality Inn there. We drove to a Wendy's for dinner to go and went back to the hotel to eat and relax. (Okay, we also wanted a good parking space!)

Newest RAK I made...

No card made yesterday.

Here's a card I made with the new Looks Like Spring set (go to Page 6 & 7) from SU! I am sending it as a RAK to a friend on the NSStampers list I am on. The inside has a simple sentiment saying "I think of you". I like this card. I'm hoping to make some of the One Sheet Wonder cards as a gift for friends, eventually. I'm trying for a card a day. As long as I can.

Today's card is the same type as yesterday. I really like this flip-flop technique. The flip flop, "It's Your Day" and sand dollar stamps are all $1 stamps from Michael's. The "Enjoy!" stamp was from a retired SU! set called Everyday Expressions. I used the same shading technique, too. Split Coast Stampers is the BOMB!!!

Time off...

Well, I took some time away from the computer. I am making progress with my stamping. Not with my walking! Bummer!!! Oh well, I will upload a card I did tonight for a friend. The technique is called "Flip-Flop" (taken from Split Coast Stampers web site) and since I love those things and I was thanking my friend for getting me something with a flip flop design, I thought I would use the two for her card. I hope she likes it.

Here is the front of the card. I used a dollar stamp from Michael's for the flip flop background. The shading technique also came from Split Coast. (they have a wealth of info) You use a small cosmetic sponge and an alligator clip and swipe the ink from the edge of the cardstock inward. Here's
a card with that technique that is the BOMB!!! I also used the new linen background stamp from SU! It is very versatile.

Here is the inside of the card. I used the Sizzix sidekick flip flops and foot dies. I love using that machine! (The regular Sizzix machine was used for the letter "T" and "Y" on the front of the card with Alphabars.)

Well, I shopped til I dropped both Thursday and Friday. Actually, Thursday was cross-training day with BFF!!! We shopped and carried our hangers of clothes for over 2 hours!!! That gave us some strong muscles. Plus, both days we probably walked 5 miles each day! I can honestly say that I put in my 10,000 steps every day this week. Today I took a physical break and caught up on the yahoo list I co-own. Plus, I cleaned some boxes out and now I am preparing eggs to be colored for our egg fight tomorrow.

I didn't win anything at Bunko but I did have fun, as usual! We always have fun.

I walked before I went to Bunko. I did a bit over 3 miles and it was 45 minutes. My shins are getting sore. I have to be careful as I stopped running because of shin splints many years ago. I don't want any problems. I need to stretch more before I venture out.

I want to go 5 miles tomorrow. The weather is too good not to walk!

Today was sewing club. Though I was extrememly tired and in a not sociable mood, I really didn't want to go. I did, however, force myself knowing that I need to keep active and moving regularly. I was sure glad I did.

By noon, I had cut many strips for the border. Now, I have to sew these strips together and next month at sewing, see what is the next step. I am liking the color combination I picked. I hope to be done by July.

No walk today. I wanted a break since my calves were really tight yesterday and I walked 5 miles. I will try to get up tomorrow early am and walk 4 miles. I have Bunko at 9:30 so I have to go at 6:30 am.

Since staying up til the wee hour of 3:30 am waiting for Promboy to return, I decided not to walk this am but instead, sleep in. Good idea as I was tired all day. I will start back up tomorrow.

I went with my BFF to the mall (and with my younger son) for shoes. We ate an early dinner at Olive Garden...mmmmmmmmmmm breadsticks with Alfredo Sauce............. I also shared the Chicken Alfredo w/Broccoli. And there was enough to bring home for hubby. Good stuff!

Tomorrow, I have to return the tux to After Hours and before 11 am so I don't get a late fee. They waived it for today since I told them I found it in the back of the car...Promboy put it in the back and I forgot it!!!

No Grey's Anatomy tonight, which sucks! I did see that they have two more episodes but no dates yet. Next week is Easter Sunday so that is probably out. If you check out the IMDB, you can find out lots about your favorite TV shows and the actors that play in them.

WOW!!! I missed yesterday!!! I walked 5 miles and met up with my BFF half way. We stopped at Barnie's for a quick java and bagel and then walked back. Both of us had a busy day as our kids both were going to Prom...same prom but different dates. What a day it was! I have the "easy" task of having a low maintenance son. Okay, he is extremely high maintenance but in a different way! BFF's daughter had hair, nails, make-up appts, etc... My son showered and dressed in 20 minutes!!!!

[My son is fourth from the left...dyed-black hair (in a family of blondes) with white suit]

"(You can) Go Your Own Way"-Fleetwood Mac

Third Post

Okay, so it's 10:47 pm and I didn't get my hair cut. Maybe tomorrow or Sunday. Hmmm...maybe I will lose a few pounds by just cutting off a few inches?!!!!!

COOL!!!
Second post today...

I guess I should just type as I think of things to say. I went through several blog sites and many people have multiple posts in a day.

Yesterday I went to Mall of Millenia with my BFF. We ate at
Brio Tuscan Grille and had "Flirtinis". MMMMMM They were great! I so enjoy eating there! I also liked going from store to store laughing at the prices of the handbags and shoes!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Walk this way...

Okay, I'm starting to walk again! My motivation seems to be more of doing it because I see others doing it. Take the FATMANWALKING for instance. He is going from San Diego, CA to NYC. It has taken about a year but he is doing it. So, I say now, I can do it, too!

Today, I walked 4 miles in one hour and 57 seconds. Just about a 15 minute mile. I set goals during my walk and changed them while I was walking! Right now, my 3 main goals today are to do this blog (done), prepare the paper bag album for the four girls I chaperoned in NYC for the band trip and do a walk tomorrow...checking first to see if the MFM have a walk going on.

I weighed 181.5 lbs this am. I am a pre-diabetic and in need of losing some weight and speeding up my metabolism. Huh, another goal!!! Go figure...

BTW, that picture is of me when I was at IOA (Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, FL) last month. I have let my hair grow out for the last 4-5 years and I need a change. I am getting it cut today! Locks of love, look out!

Addendum: I came up with some ideas for walking and I think I will use my plain, bright colored t-shirts for each walk and paint a number for the walk number I did. And I can date it in Sharpie. I want to videotape me walking tomorrow and talk while I walk and then take a picture or two.

How I spent my day...

I can't seem to sit still enough to watch a movie but today, I was "told" to. Let me explain...
I wanted to take pictures of our pets...Nala and Simba...for the pet rescue place where my son is doing his community service hours for his bright future scholarship. As my husband and I sat on the floor and I was trying to get the little angels to pose for pics, I had to pick the big boy up and as I did, I decided to turn at the same time. Well, as age is taking its toll on my body, it isn't telling me directly but surprises me every once in a while with an ache or pain. Except today. It was a jolt that went through me like a lightning bolt!!! So, since I was now laid up in bed for the rest of the day, I decided to finally watch the two movies I borrowed from my niece.
The Notebook came first. I think it was superb....all good things happening just the way my dreams of romance are. And as I tried to cry (as I always do with romantic tear-jerkers), the pain kept me from doing so...weird, but true!
The second movie was Love Actually. This is a great pick-me-up movie with wonderful songs that you can easily relate to if you're 30+ years old. Simple but fun.
So, as the higher being decided the time had come for me to stop and watch the movies, I had to endure excruciating pain and bedrest to remind me to do so.
Tomorrow, I may just watch Beaches and try to cry some more! I hear it's the best for that.
Til next time....

got legs? walk...it does a body good

So, I started walking again last week. I walked 5 miles twice in the week. I walked tonight, too, but only 2 miles. I hope to walk tomorrow and then walk on Saturday for the Mid Florida Milers walk. I can't walk as fast and I have some issue with my right ankle area but I think if I keep massaging it and use it, it will get better. Now, if only I could drop a few pounds....determination! Need some!

Procrastination is always a day away

Why do we procrastinate? I'll look into that later...
